The recycling of electric wires and cables represents extra income to manufacturers in the sector

Equipment manufacturer for reverse manufacturing presentinwire South America, the advantages of recycling wires and dryelectric cables

São Paulo, February 2019 – Annually there are thousands of tons of waste resulting from wires and electric cables used in electronics, appliances, automobiles, construction, among other sectors. In practice, all equipment that requires electricity or transmission of information is taken to the incorrect disposal, such as burning, directly damagingtheenvironment. These products can be recycled and reused making them viable to manufacture other products.

For Wallysson Ferreira, sales manager of EcoRobust, a pioneer in the manufacture of dry wire and cable recycling equipment in Brazil, even when recycling thesematerials, the mistake of burning the plastic to take advantage of only the metal (usually copper).”Our machines separate the polymer (plastic) from the metal so they can be marketed separately, increasing the revenue in the process,” he explains.

TheEcoRobustwill be the second time in the wire SouthAmerica, uniqueevent in Latin America to bring together the latest technologies, products and services in the manufacture and processing of wires and cables.According to Ferreira, the intention is to take to these manufacturers the culture of thereverse manufacture(recycling).”In 2018, we noticed an increasing interest from these companies in the recycling process of wires and electric cables.Even because laws that require reverse logistics (when manufactured products return to the manufacturer after they are used) have become morecomprehensive in the sense of environmental preservation and protection.”

In addition to representing an environmentally friendly action, reuse of used wires and electric cables can also be a good cash-back option for businesses.Currently, the pound of copper is sold for about BRL 22.00 and the granulated plastic between BRL 0.50 and BRL 0.90 in the country, depending on the purity of the material to be recycled, according to Ferreira.

Considering that in an electric wire has 40% of its mass made of plastic and 60% of copper, and a recycler works with a ton of electric wires per day, we will have in one year 365 tons recycled, being 146 tons of plastic and 219 of copper.”If we cansell a kilo of plastic for BRL 1 and BRL 22.00 covers have a gross amount per year of BRL 4.96 million,”concluded the executive.

The process of reverse manufacturing of wires and cables consists of sorting the material, grinding and making it uniform, to perform the densimetric separation of copper and PVCatdry, explains Ferreira.

“TheEcoRobustworks with the design and construction of equipment as per the demand of the scrap market and the wire and cable industry,we are partners of the segments,we believe that there is a vast walk in this awareness process on recycling, and we are a priori together with the small and medium traders of this sector, which grows considerably each year.ThepartnershipofEcoRobustis solid and innovative, with every challenge of the projects presented we have the solution and satisfied customer,”affirms
Ferreira.

Wooden spools are also recyclable

Madem, a manufacturer of wooden spools for wiring and wire harnessing, which will also be present onwire, also recycles its used products.”Recycling of wooden spools is a necessity because of reverse logistics,” says Moacir Romagna, the company’s commercial manager.
